Fun, easy and an amazing experience! I was worried that with both work and school I wouldn’t have time to learn, but I was wrong. Everything was properly explained and thorough. This course was short, sweet and to the point. I learned so much! Highly recommend.

  2. Gena (verified owner)

Japanese 102 was truly unexpected for me. I feel like I left with so much more than I thought I would initially. When our last week of class had finished I felt I had grown to a completely new level of understanding in Japanese. Learning what I did in these 8 weeks has allowed me and my family to connect by practicing Japanese together. I could have a conversation with my Obachan (a native Japanese speaker) for the first time ever and I cannot express how much joy that brought us. I know that likely would not have happened if not for this class. Additionally, the course allowed for lots of practice and feedback on writing, reading, and speaking. I believe that Sayaka Sensei’s feedback on my speaking homework will help me improve my pitch accent that would have likely gone uncorrected if I had not taken this course. This class was completely worth it to me. I am very grateful for the chance to have taken it. I look forward to growing and learning even more in Japanese 103!

  3. Melissa (verified owner)

I loved this class, Sayaka Sensei is a great teacher who really pays attention to everyone in the class and makes learning so much easier. The biggest thing is this class got me speaking, and especially helped me feel comfortable speaking. Even when I or any of my classmates made a mistake, it wasn’t embarrassing since Sayaka Sensei’s feedback and corrections were always gentle and aimed at helping us improve. 10/10 would take again

  4. Amir Shahatit (verified owner)

What a great class! I’ve tried a lot of tools for self learning Japanese, but the community Sayaka Sensei created in such a short time was unparalleled. Tons of speaking practice, a low pressure environment where it’s encouraged to learn from your mistakes, and lots of laughter. I made real friends in this course and I can’t wait to jump into 103. My only regret is not devoting more time to the course. It’s like doing exercise by playing sports, you get stronger without even noticing it.

  5. tt317520 (verified owner)

I loved this class and I enjoyed finally learning the basics of Japanese! I’ve tried to learn the language on my own several times, but I would get confused and lose motivation. This class helped me finally break through that wall in my learning and I feel like I have a much better grasp of the language. Sayaka Sensei is great, and you can tell she really wants everyone to learn and do their best, which creates a very nice, non-pressured learning environment. I would definitely recommend taking this class!

  6. Jonathan Reyes (verified owner)

Sayaka-sensei really helped me understand the Japanese language better, while also keeping me challenged. Prior to taking the course, I relied on self-study but having a mentor like Sayaka made a huge difference! In terms of time commitment, the workload is a good amount to keep you engaged while prioritizing your daily everyday routine. Now, I’m taking Japanese 103 and I look forward to another new experience and challenges ahead! ありがとうございました!

  7. Tim Coloma (verified owner)

Do yourself a favour, if you’re a beginner in Japanese and you’ve been researching endless ways to start your Japanese learning journey, Sayaka’s classes are the way to go. Not only are these classes fun and engaging, you’ll learn so much during the eight week period! The content you learn during this course is backed up with real life situations and where to use the grammar points and vocabulary, speaking exercises to help put what you’ve learnt into practice, and creative homework that actually feel fun! You’ll also get to engage a lot with your fellow classmates and speak Japanese with Sayaka’s help. Honestly, Sayaka has really put a lot of work into the course and has provided us with a lot of content for us to study with each week, and she also provides great feedback to help us speak Japanese with correct intonation and sound more natural rather than sounding “textbooky”. Do yourself a favour, if you’re looking for a Japanese beginner course, this is the one to join. Appreciate all you’ve done Sayaka sensei and I look forward to joining Japanese 103!

Having just completed Japanese 102 with Sayaka, I wholeheartedly recommend that anyone else with an interest in learning the Japanese language does the same! The course itself is wonderfully well-structured and covers so much content (including cultural context alongside the linguistics), and Sayaka as a teacher perfectly balances being interactive, fun, patient, and kind, while still making sure that the course’s material is fully taught and understood by all of her students. She is amazingly personable, and always answers individual questions so that every student feels heard and gets the most out of her course. Plus, every student receives one-on-one feedback on each week’s homework assignments in incredible detail. I can’t wait to begin her Japanese 103 class— truly, do yourself a favor and learn Japanese with Sayaka!

  9. Tim Conner

Before I took this course I spent several months trying to teach myself Japanese and felt frustrated with my slow progress. After only eight weeks of class I went from only knowing a few phrases to being able to make complete sentences, introduce myself and so much more. What I liked best was that we all got plenty of chances to speak, both in class and in the homework, and it was a very safe and supportive environment. I was not afraid to make mistakes and we always got kind and helpful feedback on everything. I also appreciated how well-organized and professional the course was. Sayaka-sensei was able to cover a lot of material in a short time and I felt inspired to work hard because I was learning so much. I am planning to continue with Japanese 103 and I strongly recommend this course to anyone who, like me, learned Hiragana and Katakana but isn’t sure how to continue learning Japanese.

  10. Mauricio Jimenez

To anyone who’s reading this review I hope you stay to the end to hear me out. I’m going to start off by saying that this teacher is by far one of the best language learning teachers I’ve met in my whole life. You could say that this teacher surpasses any language teacher in any middle/high school. She makes learning so much easier and fun as well. Though I did start a course here I didn’t attend class much cuz of some issues I have going on in my end of life. But the point is that not only you learn Japanese but you also learn about other people in this class. And the students here are very kind and if you like anime you’re bound to meet at least one person who likes anime as well. To anyone who’s thinking about starting a course I would tell you to 100% definitely do it! You won’t regret it and in the end you learn a new language.

  11. Juan Carlos Manning

A masterpiece of a course! I started off Sayaka sensei’s Japanese 102 Beginner course feeling lost and insecure about my knowledge of Japanese. Her course, her dedication as a teacher and the overall kindness and encouragement from her and her team, helped me gain the confidence I needed to keep striving to get better. The classes are always fun and creative. You get to learn new grammar, new words and practice speaking in every session. If something is not clear, she will always take the time to help you understand both during class or some time during the week.
Sayaka sensei and her team really get to know you for the human being that you are and make you feel both valued and seen. I am very happy that I decided to take this course and that I got to meet incredible human beings in the process, have the most fun I have had in the last two years and obviously learn lots of Japanese!
Thank you Sayaka san, Yuya san and Nana san for so so much! Gracias mil!

If you are reading this, I urge you to sign up to a unique 11/10 experience that will help you improve your Japanese and have a blast doing so! I’m already signed up for 103! 🙂

  12. Nyree Crowe

Genuinely loved 102 and am so excited for 103 and hopefully plenty more after that. Sayaka sensei along with her TA’s are all so knowledgable and the information is soooo much easier to absorb. 11/10!

  13. azellea (verified owner)

Absolutely loved continuing my Japanese journey with Sayaka’s Japanese 102 course!

For anyone who has a busy schedule don’t be scared off by thought of taking this class! The class was structured and paced well so you continuously build on what you learned the previous weeks without feeling like you’ve been left behind.

The culture of the class is so supportive and everyone is always participating to support each other as you learn together.

While taking this class you not only learn the formal japanese but you also get both casual japanese and cultural context! If you ever have a question, Sayaka and her team were always ready to either explain or figure out an answer for you. Every student is heard and time is always dedicated for any outside of the day’s lesson questions.

This course definitely took me by surprise because before I knew it I was able to comfortably write letters to my friends who know Japanese and be able to communicate more than I thought I would by the end of the class.

The writing homework and speaking in class work & homework is always a favorite part of class for me. There is always an opportunity to grow and with the pair work that is given you get to support each other and continuously gain that comfort with speaking Japanese.

Huge shoutout to Sayaka’s team as well! Nana always had such kind & insightful feedback and Yuya always came in with excitement to help us do better!

  14. ベラさん

I honestly recommend this class after having tried self-study for 2+ years. Grammar is not easy to pick up solo but the best thing really that this class can give is verbal practice – just having someone to practice speaking with (especially those of us not in Japan) and also to have someone correct us with the pronunciation (mostly intonation) of how Japanese should “sound” (versus being “read”).

  15. Key Craig

If you are still waiting for the perfect time or place to learn Japanese… STOP RIGHT HERE!
This is your cue to sign up or join the waitlist immediately! Sayaka Sensei reports open slots promptly if you join and they are the best classes; really that i have ever taken in my life! Sayaka Sensei and her Team of TA’s are always lively and passionate about what they do making sure you succeed even if you fall or mess up!

After finishing 102 I have so much more understanding of listening, speaking, and writing that i didn’t trying to teach myself. You will not be disappointed with the classmates you get to meet, all the resources you get, and for the price Nihongodekita is offered anywhere else!

  16. Matthew L (verified owner)

Japanese 102 was an amazing class! Sayaka sensei really makes the class fun and engaging. It makes you really want to participate due to how fun she teaches the material. I’ve had rough days at work during the day, but this class never failed to cheer me up after!
With the in-class material as well as homework, this course taught me many essential skills to connect with others in Japanese.
    ありがとうございましたせんせい!!!

  17. Eric Tam

102 was a tough class, but the many pair work sessions and relevant example usage of each particle made learning each topic easier. The feedback each students receive during pair work sessions and homework are extremely helpful for improving speaking and writing. In 102, students begin speaking and writing complete sentences. After completing the course, I felt a lot more confident in responding and asking questions in Japanese.

  18. Ryan

Sayaka先生 was excellent as well as Yuya and Hiromi 先生 who were helpful in giving back feedback on the homework. I have had prior experience in Japanese prior to 102 and it helped me review what I already know as well as learn new areas that I was unfamiliar with. Breaking out into groups and forcing us to interact with other students helps a lot in everyone being less shy and making conversing more natural, making it easier to practice and use what we know. Highly recommend taking the course.

  19. Holly H

I just finished Japanese 102, and I’m so happy I did it! I had studied by myself for a couple months prior to the class, but I’d never spoken Japanese. I was super nervous at the beginning, but as time went on, I realized that making mistakes is part of learning, and my confidence grew. Sayaka Sensei is patient and fosters a friendly learning environment. Learning with other people around my same level was a very valuable experience. I can’t wait to try speaking some Japanese during my upcoming trip to Japan! 😀

  20. Jared (verified owner)

Japanese 102 was a fun and engaging class and I highly recommend anyone interested in learning Japanese to take this course. You get personalized feedback on your strengths and weaknesses and nothing beats actual practice with other people of a similar skill level and interest versus self-study.

Sayaka Sensei, as well as Yuya Sensei and Hiromi Sensei, really made the class fun and rewarding. Sayaka Sensei is extremely kind and patient and is an amazing teacher. Each class was always over before I knew it, and now that the course is over I find it a bit sad, but it just makes me look forward to the 103 Class. I definitely feel more prepared on my own upcoming trip to Japan and I owe it to this class.
    ありがとうございました!

  21. Yifei (verified owner)

Japanese 102 was awesome! Looking back, I’ve learned so much more than I expected. Sayaka先生 is very patient and encouraging. She answered everyone’s questions related to both the Japanese language and the culture and created an open environment that embraced mistakes for beginners. Even when I had a time-sensitive request in terms of payment and scheduling, she was able to help until the issue was fully resolved, despite the time difference between Japan and the US. Both Yuya先生 and Hiromi先生 are also super great and I really appreciate their feedback on the speaking and writing homework, which was really helped. ありがとうございました!Looking forward to future classes!

  22. Carlos (verified owner)

I’m SO happy I took this class! After studying hiragana and katakana on my own, I struggled when deciding what I should do next. I followed NihongoDekita on social media for a while now and decided to look into Sayaka’s classes, and I’m so glad I did! I learned so much during my time in 102, it’s actually crazy to think about how much I was able to absorb over the course of 8 weeks. The best part is the welcoming environment that the NihongoDekita team create for their classes, making the experience fun and engaging for everyone! If you are in the same boat that I was, I highly recommend Japanese 102 with Sayaka-sensei as your next step!

  23. Kajal Ford

It’s amazing how much you learn each week. It’s broken down and well explained so it’s manageable in weekly sessions but when you’re done and look back at how much you learned over the length of the class it’s truly mind-blowing. Participation and the mistakes that come with are encouraged greatly and it really helps you develop faster

  24. Mary (verified owner)

As someone who had been pursuing self-study for almost a year, I wasn’t sure what to expect out of the 102 course, but I desperately needed speaking practice and more formal explanations of grammar that I wasn’t getting through other resources. Sayaka Sensei and her team delivered! While a lot of the vocabulary was review, I finally understand the ‘why’ behind much of what I previously memorized, and feel more confident building sentences and communicating more fluidly. The course was adequately challenging, while still remaining approachable and friendly. I managed to balance the coursework and class time with a demanding work schedule, and felt I improved a great deal over the eight-week course. It was easy to make the decision to continue with Japanese 103, and am excited to continue learning with great instructors and classmates.

  25. Kevin (verified owner)

Japanese 102 was such a fun experience to learn from Sayaka sensei, Jumpei sensei, Yuya sensei. All the sensei’s were very attentive with everyone. I didn’t know I was able to cram so much vocabs and particles within such a short amount of time. Coming out of Japanese 102, I am able to put simple sentences together. A lot of fun speaking exercises to help you feel more comfortable with the language. Highly recommended if you’re looking to expand your Japanese knowledge.

  26. Zach Murphy (verified owner)

I really did enjoy taking 102. It was challenging, but if you take the time outside of class to learn the vocab, it’ll all come together. What I appreciated was the environment where it felt ok to mess up. The teachers were critical but it was in a way that they wanted me to improve so I was very receptive to their feedback.

The biggest hurdle I had for myself was feeling confident with what I was saying, and compared to the 101 class I definitely improved. I am looking forward to finishing 103 and seeing how it goes in Japan!

    ありがとうございます!

Thank you to Yuya and Jumpei as well they’re awesome teachers and are cool dudes as well! Also thanks to everyone else in my class, it was great to have support from others in a similar situation of learning Japanese.

  27. Craig Dubin (verified owner)

I love this class! I can’t say enough how helpful Sayaka and her TA’s (Yuya and Junpei) are! As an adult-learner (in my early 50’s), I was really worried about being able to keep up. I wish all my classes growing up were this engaging, interesting and appropriately paced. The workload is pretty ambitious for anyone with a lot going on, but it’s well worth it. The value for the price is amazing. I think some of us were a bit “star struck” with Sayaka since she’s so prolific on Youtube. Honestly, I learned a ton from her videos before finding her class, but having th active engagement and great feedback and support from classmates and teachers alike have been wonderful. Take the class!

  28. Sydney Somerville

I have a lot of fun in this class. I learned so much from Sayaka sensei, Yuya sensei, and Junpei sensei. Grammar concepts are broken down and explained very well and I feel encouraged to speak in class and feel comfortable making mistakes. I was nervous to start a Japanese class and worried about balancing it with everyday life. The curriculum is well paced and the homework isn’t too demanding. I love the feedback and emphasis given to speaking and pronunciation. I will definitely continue with the courses till the end.

  29. Lucas da Silva (verified owner)

By watching Sayaka Sensei’s video on YouTube I knew that Japanese 102 would be a fun experience, but I was not expecting to have so much fun like I did! Everyone in the class was super friendly.

Sayaka, Yuya and Jumpei Sensei are rockstars teachers. I’m truly grateful for the uplifting environment they provide during the lessons! They give you a lot of confidence in speaking.

Though the class might seem a bit expensive compared to other options, their approach in teaching makes it totally worth it!

    Highly recommend!

    本当にありがとうございます!

I had an absolute amazing time in Japanese 102 with Sayaka sensei! I’ve taken quite a few classes before, but nothing compares to the preparation and resources that Sayaka sensei provides for her students. Growing close to fellow learners was a huge plus as everyone is so kind and helpful. I loved it so much I signed up for 103 in a heartbeat 🙂 Thank you so much sensei!

  31. Kevin (verified owner)

I’ve taken multiple different Japanese classes with other teachers, but I really enjoyed this one the most. The energy and passion that sensei has to teach us is something that made learning Japanese enjoyable, yet informative. Won’t find a better learning environment than the one sensei has created.

  32. GinaTLott (verified owner)

I highly recommend Nihongodekita to everyone who wants to learn Japanese!! Japanese 102 was a great class for me to improve my Japanese language skills. Sayaka sensei is a joy to learn from. She makes the class fun and comfortable for everyone. We had many opportunities in and out of class to practice with great feedback which helped me improve my pronunciation and pitch. I can’t wait to start Japanese 103!

  33. Karla Rodriguez (verified owner)

To anyone wondering if they should take Japanese 102- don’t hesitate and register for this amazing course!! I took Japanese lessons with Sayaka-sensei 3 years ago and had to stop due to being a college student and now teacher, but I was always eager to return in the future. I haven’t taken any Japanese lessons since 3 years ago and I was so nervous to start my journey again, but I ended up being super happy and excited to attend the class every week! I definitely recommend the Japanese 102 course since it will help you immensely with your Japanese reading, writing, listening and speaking skills! Sayaka-sensei, Yuya-sensei, and Jumpei-sensei are amazing and kind teachers who are always ready to help their students improve their Japanese language skills! The learning environment was fun and comfortable throughout the entire course. I am super excited for Japanese 103!!

  34. Devin Richey (verified owner)

Ok y’all so listen up — I took the 101. I loved it. I was so so excited to take the 102.

And you know what? 102 WAS AMAZING.

Sayaka-sensei, Jumpei-sensei, and Yuya-sensei had a wrap-up conversation with us on our very last Zoom, and Jumpei-sensei had such a beautiful sentiment to share: that when we started week 1, we were introducing ourselves in Japanese… [I can remember this week clearly; I was intimidated, we were being asked to speak sentences with others and understand them in return. What a jump!]

…And yet, by the end, we were BUILDING sentences all our own, essentially communicating several thoughts worth of expressions to each other. Having conversations with one another on weekend/week plans, invitations, time and place, location naming… Jumpei-sensei made this point to acknowledge how much we had grown in such a short amount of time, and I think that sentiment very accurately reflects the growth you’ll find within yourself after taking this course.

In my last review for 101, I mentioned that my dream to speak Japanese was because I wanted to communicate with my fiancée and her family, who’s native language was Japanese. By the end of this course, I was actually doing just that. Having conversations with her, with my future family, and feeling the joys of communication where once there existed a wall of translation between us.

Don’t get me wrong, this course is PACKED! Your brain feels like it’s taking in a ton of information: There were moments where I would sit and think, “ok, wow, I feel overwhelmed.” But here’s where this course really shines; Sayaka-sensei was offering such friendly, professional, wonderful support when those moments came. I felt like each of them were with us and on our team to help us reach our greatest success over these weeks. To add to that, meeting so many new friends and feeling in community with others on this same adventure made the task of learning Japanese feel that much more attainable.

Once more, my partner was surprised at how quickly we were moving and learning. I truly believe that this is a testament to the superb quality that Sayaka-sensei’s course offers. Support, challenge, motivation, community, inspiration, joy, fun! It’s all here, and I feel so much gratitude and excitement for the growth I have felt in myself after taking 102. I am so genuinely excited to continue with 103, and to see all the beautiful moments that my life can contain, now that I have developed these ways of communicating with my loved ones that, at one point, felt like such an impossible dream.

    ありがとう ございました!
Highly highly recommend for anyone who also dreams of speaking, understanding, reading, and writing Japanese. This course is a stepping stone towards that reality.

  35. Matthew Greenawalt

I took 102, starting in April 2024, and I’m really impressed by how much progress our class made, particularly in conversation abilities and practical applications. Much of the vocabulary was review because I think most of us had some experience already from self-teaching by other sources or from taking 101, which was a helpful advantage going into it. However, it was my first enrollment in any Japanese classes and everything about this online class setting and the resources used contributed much more in just eight weeks to all of us actually speaking and hearing spoken Japanese. We were growing faster than we could realize because class was fun and engaging. Sayaka sensei, Yuya sensei, and Jumpei sensei were all extremely kind, patient, constructive, and consistently effective in all aspects of teaching us. We all had a chance for any questions and comments to add to what we were learning, and it was a safe space for everyone. I personally feel it was an amazing experience so I’m already signed up for 103 and can’t wait to get started. 10/10! どうもありがとうございました! みんなさん、おつかれさまでした! にほんごできた!

  36. Chris Masters (verified owner)

Ok, so Japanese 102 with Nihongo Dekita doesn’t reinvent the wheel. The coursework is based around the tried-and-true Genki series, and the material rarely strays from this path. It’s also online, so internet latency, and bandwidth can be an issue. (I often heard students’ answers 2-3 seconds after everyone else finished speaking.) But that’s about as critical as I can get. The classes are incredible, and the true value is in the opportunity to speak, listen, and respond to unscripted conversation – which you can’t get through a book, or an app alone. Being in this course also motivated me to practice my writing, as well as studying vocabulary – which is priceless. The hardest part about learning Japanese is to simply keep doing it. The presenters are well versed in English, and adept at explaining concepts about the usage of Japanese. I really appreciated the class breakout rooms, where we would often get more focused attention from one of the instructors – and I noticed that the instructors would push us to be better when interacting with us. Often my pitch accent, or intonation, would be corrected – which was fantastic. Those little details, and learning opportunities only come from practicing speaking – and having someone who knows better there to help you on your journey. I absolutely recommend these classes, and will absolutely be taking more in the future – but first I’ve got a trip to Japan booked. A trip I feel much more confident in taking because of this class!

Signing up for 101 and 102 has been the best decision I’ve made for my Japanese learning journey! I’ve tried other group classes and apps but nothing skyrocketed my progress like learning with Nihongodekita!

Shoutout to Sayaka, Yuya and Jumpei senseis. They are highly empathetic toward their students and has a keen grasped of what foreign Japanese language learners’ needs are. Always encouraging but direct and specific with feedback.

I’ve signed up for 103 and looking forward to continuing my progress with Nihongodekita.
